Frequently Asked Questions

Everything customers ask us about choosing, colouring, fitting and ordering a column radiator. If yours is not here, email us and we will answer it.

Choosing And Sizing

Start with the heat output the room needs, in BTUs. Take the room length, width and ceiling height and work out the volume, then allow for glazing and exposure. Once you have the figure, pick a height that suits the wall and add sections until the output covers it. If you would rather we did it, send us the room sizes and we will size it for you.

The number of columns sets the depth and the heat output per section. A two column is the slimmest and suits hallways and narrow walls. A three column is our most popular profile at 101mm and balances output with presence. A four column is the deepest and gives the most heat per section, useful when wall width is limited.

A section is one vertical column unit. Radiators are built from a run of sections welded together, so width and heat output rise with every section you add. The product page shows the BTUs, the width and the price as you change the count.

Horizontal radiators sit under windows and along walls and are the better choice for heat output per pound. Vertical radiators suit narrow walls in kitchens, hallways and bathrooms where floor space is tight. Both come in the same column profiles and colours.

Pipe centres are the distance between the two valve connections at the base of the radiator. They are set by the height and the number of sections. You will find them on every product page under specifications. Your plumber will need the figure to position the pipework before the radiator is fitted.

Colours And Finishes

Over 200. White RAL 9016 is held in stock. Every other colour is powder coated to order. That covers our standard palette, textured and mottled finishes, metallics, bare metal lacquer and any RAL Classic reference.

Powder coated. The colour is applied as a dry powder and baked onto the steel, which gives a hard, even coat that does not chip or yellow the way a brushed paint can. It is also why colours are made to order rather than sprayed here.

You can, but we would not recommend it. A powder coated finish is harder and more even than anything applied by brush. Painting over it voids the finish guarantee. If you want a specific colour, order it coated to that colour.

Valves come in brass, antique brass, chrome, nickel, matt black and pewter rather than in RAL colours. Most customers pair a coloured radiator with a metal valve finish. We fit the combinations at the showroom if you want to see them together.

Delivery And Lead Times

£14.95 inc VAT per order to UK mainland addresses. Free on orders of £999.99 or more. Valves and accessories ordered on their own are £6.95. Full details are on the delivery and returns page.

White RAL 9016 is in stock and dispatches in 3 to 4 working days. Made to order colours and special finishes take 4 to 6 weeks, because each one is powder coated for your order. Valves and accessories are 2 to 3 working days.

By standard courier, Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm. Column radiators are light enough to travel boxed, so there is no pallet to deal with. We email you the day it leaves us.

Installation And Valves

Every radiator needs a pair of valves. One controls the flow and one lockshield balances it. For a room you want to control independently choose a thermostatic pair. For a room controlled by the main thermostat, a manual pair is fine. Angled valves suit pipes from the floor and straight valves suit pipes from the wall.

A thermostatic radiator valve senses the room temperature and closes the radiator when it reaches the setting, so each room runs at its own temperature. Building regulations require TRVs on new radiators in most rooms other than the one with the main thermostat.

Any radiator over 750mm high, or one mounted on feet, should have wall stays. They fix the top of the radiator to the wall so it cannot tip. They are a small cost and we fit them as standard on tall radiators in the showroom.

Both. Every radiator comes with wall brackets as standard. If the wall cannot take the weight, or you prefer the look, choose floor feet on the product page and mount it on the floor with wall stays to steady the top.

Yes. Column radiators connect with standard half inch BSP valves and work with any wet central heating system, combi or conventional. Your plumber may need to move the pipe tails to match the new pipe centres, which are listed on every product page.

We recommend one. Fitting involves draining part of the system, hanging the radiator level on the brackets, connecting and balancing the valves and bleeding the air out. A competent heating engineer will do it in an hour or two per radiator.

Guarantee And Returns

Ten years on every radiator, covering the steel body and the powder coated finish against manufacturing defects. It applies to radiators fitted by a competent installer to a properly maintained wet system.

In stock white radiators can be returned within 14 days of delivery if they are unused, uninstalled and in the original packaging. Made to order colours are coated to your specification and cannot be returned unless they arrive faulty.

Check the box before you sign and unpack it the same day. Email photographs to us within 48 hours and we will send a replacement. Please do not fit a damaged radiator, as installation counts as acceptance.

Email us with your order number, a description of the fault and photographs. We will assess it from the photographs where we can and arrange a replacement or a repair. Guarantee claims never carry a delivery charge.

Ordering And Payment

Choose the height, section count, colour and options on the product page and add it to your basket. If you would rather talk it through, email us and we will take the order that way. Larger projects can be quoted by email.

Every price on the site includes VAT at 20 percent. The VAT breakdown is shown on your order confirmation, and we issue a VAT invoice with every order.

For in stock white, yes, right up to dispatch. For made to order colours you have 48 hours from placing the order to change the colour, size or section count. After that it has entered production and cannot be changed.
